Gateside celebrates the Platinum Jubilee

The letter from the Palace …

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee launched a series of celebratory community events in Gateside

It was a happy coincidence that the Jubilee coincide with the monthly First Friday lunch at the Hall - open to all Gateside residents.

An extra-special effort was made to make the Hall look good.

After the Hall was ready, Lyn Philiban played as one of the world-wide set of pipers playing Diu Regnare, written specially in honour of Her Majesty.

And that was just the prequel …

The next day saw the First Friday Platinum Lunch be enjoyed by the largest ever number of attendees, including Willie Rennie MSP and Wendy Chamberlain MP.

And Saturday saw the return of a village Big Lunch in Gateside Park after a break of many years. On a gloriously sunny day residents could mix with friends, share picnics and take part in friendly competition. Although with the ladies convincingly beating the men in the tug of war, maybe it wasn’t so friendly. There were both usual (tombola, guess the number of sweets and raffle) and unusual (name random Commonwealth flags and name the (royal) bear competitions. However, the grand prize was undoubtedly the magnificent hamper gifted by the Co-op, which was won by Stuart and Jessica Falconer.
