Living Well Locally/20 minute neighbourhoods - Community consultation

As part of Fife Council’s work looking at the 20 minute neighbourhood approach it is considering how the concept could be applied across Fife - in both the urban and rural areas. As a result planners consider that a more ‘Living Well Locally’ approach is probably more appropriate in Fife. Living well locally essentially has the same fundamental goals as 20 minute neighbourhoods but is more flexible on distance and times, and places a greater emphasis on public transport links.

So far the Council’s work on 20 minute neighbourhoods has been high level and map based - looking at the location of services and facilities across Fife. Planners are now looking to supplement that information with some more detailed case studies which consider the quality and accessibility of services and facilities.

They are carrying out a consultation exercise to get feedback from these communities on the services and facilities available in their area and to understand anything which impacts their ability to access these services. They have developed a short questionnaire which is available online. They will also be speaking to people face to face to gather information and we will email the questionnaire to local groups including community councils. If you know of any local groups you think we should contact to promote the survey please let us know. We also have a survey we have developed for younger children to get their views on the place they live. We will be contacting the head teachers of the local primary schools to promote that survey.

The survey is now available online and it will be promoted over the next few weeks. The survey will be available until the 31st of October.

Gateside was not originally considered as part of this survey; however, following an intervention by Councillor Donald Lothian, it will be added into the study group comprising Auchtermuchty, Strathmiglo, Falkland, Dunshalt, Newton of Falkland and Freuchie.

This is a chance to have your say. The survey is not difficult. Please help us getting a better and more sustainable community by completing it. Thank you.
